Here is some music from the short film “Assisted Living”, from director David Jurney. David asked me to write music in the style of classic 80s orchestral scores and modern superhero movies, which is a really exciting direction, as I hardly ever get to write music like that. The cue featured above encompasses the climax of the film, a heroic moment when two characters suddenly find a great commonality between them that sparks a deep friendship and an exciting adventure.
I did a quick session with Budapest Scoring to lay down winds, brass, and strings. The cue plays as one long piece, but for ease of reading down, I broke it up into three parts, with some strategic bars of rest that I would later edit out. The session was a great lesson on how what works with midi sample instruments doesn’t always work with live players, and how to deal with those challenges when orchestrating.
